What is Voice Dialogue and the Psychology of Selves?

Voice Dialogue is a powerful therapeutic, relationship and personal transformation tool. Through Voice Dialogue we work directly with the selves or subpersonalities of our psyche to create lasting change.

In practical terms, the process means that we can change the "stuck" places in our life; we can experience greater freedom, choice and aliveness individually and in relationship.

Uncovering Greater Possibility

By giving access to parts of us not previously available, we can discover greater potential. This can be especially valuable in developing a specific area of life and creativity. Artists, including actors, singers, musicians and visual artists can use Voice Dialogue to take their art into new areas.

Ultimately, the intention is the development of the Aware Ego - a conductor of the psyche - which can orchestrate the way in which the selves come in, so that none dominate or are absent.

Paul and Robin Gale-Baker offer individual sessions in Voice Dialogue and teach Voice Dialogue to professionals, as well as running self-development courses.

Voice Dialogue was developed by Hal Stone, PhD and Sidra Stone, PhD, internationally renowned clinical psychologists and teachers and is based on their theoretical framework, the Psychology of Selves. Their books have been translated into Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian. Norwegian and Swedish.

You can find out more about Hal and Sidra Stone at their Delos site, where you will find articles and information about Voice Dialogue.

Body Dialogue

Body Dialogue allows Voice Dialogue practitioners to dialogue directly with the body about the body's pain, discomfort, disease and distress. Body Dialogue provides a map of further work which needs to be done with the primary and disowned selves. Body Dialogue can be combined with other modalities and is a very valuable tool for counsellors, psychotherapists, naturopaths, masseurs, nurses, doctors and all health practitioners. Originated by Judith Stone, a clinical psychologist, it has been further developed in Australia by Robin Gale-Baker.
